Instructions Part 1

Ribbing: Loosely cast on 89 (95) stitches. With smaller needles, work in ribbing as follows:

Row 1: p1, * (k1, p1), repeat from * to end, ending with p1.
Row 2: k1, * (p1, k1), repeat from * to end, ending with k1.
Repeat row 1 and row 2 for 8 (10) rows.

On the last row of ribbing (row 2), iIncrease 40 (50) stitches evenly across row :129 (145) stitches.

Body: Change to larger needles, and beginning with a knit row, work in stockinette st for 20 (24) rows. End by working a purl row.
Begin top shaping on next row, beginning with row 5, (1).

Top shaping:
Row 1: *k16, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 2: purl.
Row 3: *k15, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 4: purl.
Row 5: *k14, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 6: purl.
Row 7: *k13, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 8: purl.
Row 9: *k12, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 10: purl.

Instructions Part 2
Row 11: *k11, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 12: purl.
Row 13: *k10, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 14: purl.
Row 15: *k9, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 16: purl.
Row 17: *k8, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 18: purl.
Row 19: *k7, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 20: purl.
Row 21: *k6, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 22: purl.
Row 23: *k5, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 24: purl.
Row 25: *k4, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 26: p1, *p2tog, p3, repeat from * to end.
Row 27: * k2, k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1.
Row 28: p1, *p2tog, p1, repeat from * to end.
Row 29: * k2tog, repeat from * to last stitch, end with k1. (9 stitches remaining).

Finishing: Fasten off yarn leaving about 18 inches. Draw yarn through stitches on needle and pull up tightly. Sew seam.

 

Materials

Sizes: teen's, (ladies)

Materials: 200 yards of a worsted weight yarn. Size 5 & 7 needles, or those needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 5 st =1 inch with larger needles.
